This post is for all of you out there who are desperately trying to be healthy. You’re grasping at straws, holding on for dear life to anything that will turn you in to one of those perky, blonde, gym bunnies who sips on kale juice and does crunches for fun. If that’s you, then I bet the 5 words I’m talking about, you will know oh too well…
Exam season is upon us once more. I bet if you listen closely, you can hear the steam blowing out of students ears as they slump and scribble furiously over their books. Meanwhile, I am sitting here serenely sipping on a cup of tea. My fingernails are all intact, and I am not jittering down into a caffeine coma…wanna know my secret? Of course you do…
Is it the full-fat milk that’s causing the spare tyre around your waist? The muffin says it’s 95% fat-free…that means it’s healthy, right? There is a lot of uncertainty surrounding this major dietary component. Katie from ‘Chocolate covered Katie’ has put out a challenge for us to show fat some love this month. Today I’m hopefully going to undo some of the myths and confusion concerning fat. I’ve got some simple tips to help you get fat-savvy.
First of all, this week was my blogs very first birthday! I can’t believe you’ve stuck with me this long. It’s really incredible to see how much it’s grown. Thank you for coming back every week. Anyway, I’m a big believer in celebrating birthdays…or actually any such significant event. Heck, I’d celebrate National Pirate day if it meant having cake. I’d even go so far to say that I like parties more than coffee and chocolate. And on that bombshell, let’s get on with it!…
The desire to fit in. We all feel it at some point. We all want to be “normal,” to be liked and accepted by others. So how do you navigate this treacherous territory when food is controlling your life? When everything around you feels like a crazy whirlwind and the only sense of calm you feel is when calculating the number of calories you had for breakfast. I want to let you in on a secret…how to be free from guilt, fear and shame…and to start really living!
I have an extra special surprise for you today! I’m really excited to introduce you to another excellent food blogger- my lovely friend Amelia. She is also from New Zealand and is currently studying law. Amelia is the queen of gorgeous Instagram photos. She has kindly shared an awesome chocolate zucchini oatmeal recipe with us.
I finally beat the flu. It was quite a struggle, but in the end it was no match for my super vege-powered body. There is so much happening at the moment. Uni work is piling up, but I’m also really excited about the Rugby World cup (because you’re not a true kiwi if you aren’t caught up in the hype.) So if you aren’t currently yelling at the ref or singing patriotically to your national anthem, I’ve got some awesome reads for you.
So I’ve been a little under the weather this week. I caught an unfortunate bout of man-flu off my dad…it’s so much worse than regular flu (because we all know what men are like when they get sick.) I’m bundled up feeling sorry for myself, and not studying because my head hurts. So how about you have a sympathy muffin with me?
This post is a shout-out to all the couch potatoes. To all the would be runners (if it wasn’t cold or rainy and you had a sliver of motivation.) I know some of you would rather grow a mustache than go to a 7 am boot-camp class. But I’m gonna tell you 4 easy steps that will help you fall in love with exercise. Lace up your Reeboks…It’s time to break a sweat.
If you have a spare moment (i.e want to procrastinate like me) please can you participate in my survey?
I’d really love to get some feedback on what you enjoy/would like to see more of on the blog.
Thanks for your time, it means so much to me.
