The week in review

Hi friends!

If I’m being honest this week hardly deserves to be reviewed. It was the first week of my break (yay) but I’ve been working on an essay all week which has been totally kicking my butt (boo.) I’ve literally been sat behind my laptop for the entire week. And when I wasn’t behind the laptop I was in the kitchen rummaging through the fridge for snacks to make the whole process slightly more bearable. But I’ve missed the week in reviews so I’m writing today because I can make a story out of anything.

So here is what has been happening in my world this week…

Monday: Crazy plant lady…

I had a super busy weekend last week so I decided to take Monday off since it was the first proper day of our break and all. I went shopping and found the cutest pair of shorts which I have yet to wear because the second I buy something summery Auckland decides to revert back to gross, stormy, wintery weather (typical.)

When my mum came to visit the other weekend we bought these adorable little herb planters at a market and I have been meaning to fill them so I went to the gardening store to see what I could find. While I was there I discovered the plant clearance section and there was this one little flowering plant that I felt so sorry for I decided our flat should adopt it. Her name is Penelope…

Tuesday: I know my car…

Apparently there are two types of people in the world and I am most definitely the first one. As soon as the petrol light flips on my anxiety level goes through the roof. What if I ran out of gas right here? Where is the nearest fuel station anyway? What if my cell phone battery dies and I’m stranded here?

I don’t understand those people who drive around for ages with the light on. I have zero chill.

While I was filling up and congratulating myself on making it to the petrol station in time this guy came over and was trying to sell me car wax. I hate people trying to sell me things at the best of times but when I’m filling up the car I have to have two hands and both eyes on the nozzle at all times.

Like I said…zero chill. But do I look like the kind of person who buys car wax? Buddy you’re chatting up the wrong girl.

Wednesday: Breakfast at Tiffany’s…

I haven’t watched Breakfast at Tiffany’s in years so I decided I really needed to. I adore Audrey Hepburn. I want to be her when I grow up. Anyway I think this one needs to be added to my list of feel-good movies. It’s just great.

But her cat made me desperately want to adopt one for myself. And funnily enough, the animal shelter in Auckland is apparently overrun with kittens at the moment so tell me that’s not a sign…

Thursday: Party planning…

If there is one thing I LOVE it’s planning a party. I always have this idea in my head that it’s gonna be a low key and intimate occasion but suddenly I’m swept up into a whirlwind of fairy lights, balloons and confetti and I’ve realized I don’t know what low-key means.

My 21st birthday is coming up next month (eep) and I have begun the initial stages of planning my party. It kinda makes me wanna quit Uni and become a professional party planner because this is my jam. I am on fire. I could do this all day, every day.

But anyway, so far I’ve got a theme, a guest list and two potential candidates for the cake. I’m torn between these two because both are so gorgeous. Help me decide! Let me know which one you like best in the comments.

Friday: S’mores for daaaaays…

Our church’s youth camp is coming up real soon and I am in charge of buying some of the supplies we need. I decided to be S’mores Captain because hello, that’s the best job. So I went shopping for the marshmallows and cookies and I’ve never felt more judged by a supermarket cashier in my life.

But I can’t really blame her since who buys 15 packets of cookies and 8 packets of marshmallows on their casual Friday night shop? Me, that’s who.

I always feel like in this situations I need to justify myself to the people around me which is kinda ridiculous because a) they probably don’t care even if I was buying 70 s’mores for myself and b) it doesn’t matter what they think anyway.

So yeah, that was my week. I told you I could make a story out of anything! ICYMI, here is what I posted about:

Now tell me…

Did you do anything exciting this week?

Which cake do you like best?

  1. I just laughed the whole post. Which, I needed that long laugh! Long live Penelope!
I’m in between ‘I know my car’and ‘I’m gonna die because my car’s gonna run out on the freeway’… It’s really just dependant on the day 😉
Both cakes are gorgeous! I’ve always wanted a naked cake so I’m voting for that one. Although, more flowers around the base would just make it.

    1. Oh that makes me so happy Laura, I’m glad I could make you laugh! Ooh it’s gonna be so tricky to decide on the cake, I think the drizzle is winning so far. I agree though, more flowers would be lovely.

  2. My car tells me how many miles I have left of a tank of gas when I worked if it close to 100 miles I would fill the tank. Now that I am retired and drive less if it says I have 100 miles left that means I have about two weeks before I need gas. lol

  3. I’ve actually never seen Breakfast at Tiffany’s (or any other Audrey Hepburn movie for that matter)!!! The horror right?!! This has to change.
Hmm, cake-wise, I think it will also depend on the flavor. Based on just the pictures, I think I’m leaning towards the drizzle one! Looking forward to hearing more about your birthday plans!

    1. Oh that definitely needs to change! Audrey is a doll. I have no idea what flavours the cakes come in but I’d be pretty happy no matter what because cake is cake mmm. The drizzle one does seem to be winning the vote though.

  4. I love little Penelope; she’s so cute! And I’m totally the person who often goes to the very bottom of the gas tank (which I don’t recommend), but then I make myself anxious by not filling up before it gets empty. I need to be more proactive than reactive about that. O_O

Also I’m definitely on the drizzle cake train; I guess I just like more frosting, and it would be so fun to celebrate turning 21 with you! HAPPY HAPPY birthday! (can you email me your address?)

    1. Thanks! She’s pretty adorable right? Oh yikes! I could not handle driving with you then haha. Ooh it seems like the drizzle cake is really popular! I wish you could come to my party too.
