The week in review

Hi friends!

My current position is lying bundled up in my bed with a cup of coffee listening to the rain beating against my window. This morning was supposed to be run numero dos in my half marathon training but I’m thinking I’d rather not be swallowed up by the massive street puddles. So I’m just gonna stay here in my cozy cocoon and enjoy my last Saturday of freedom before our semester begins again on Monday.

I’ve been a little bit slack about posting a week in review for the past month because when our break started I realized just how badly I needed a break. A proper lie-down-on-the-couch-and-watch-Friends-all-day break. So that’s what I did.

I shut down for a bit and hit the refresh button. And finally, FINALLY, I’m feeling like myself again.

Burnout is a real thing friends and there ain’t no shame in taking the time you need to rest and reset.

Now I’m back and ready to tell you all about my week. Have you missed me? I’ve missed you!

Monday: Getting crafty…

So I’m a youth leader at church and currently we are in the process of trying to raise a whole lot of money for the youth camp. Our first big fundraising event is a Craft market that is happening next weekend so we have been busy bees trying to rustle up as many crafty things as possible before then.

My contribution are these super cute paper heart garlands, the idea for which I totally didn’t steal from Pinterest.

I also got to making candles for the very first time which was fun apart from waiting for the wax to melt down which took a literal age. I found some cute little tea cups which we used to hold the candles and now I kind of want one for myself.

Tuesday: John who?…

I told you how my June goal was to listen to a bunch of new music and expand my musical horizons a bit, well I found someone who is even more in need of that than me.

I was talking to my flatmates about how great John Mayer’s tweets are (go take a look and have a laugh) and one of my flatmates said, ‘who’s John Mayer?’

He didn’t know who JOHN MAYER was. I fully thought he was just taking the mickey but he was dead serious. And then we played him all the classics and he didn’t recognize a single one. I don’t even know how it’s possible.

Anyway, as you can tell I was a bit distraught by this information. So apparently I’ve got a crush on John Mayer that I didn’t know about. But what can I say, he’s a pretty fine specimen 😉

Wednesday: A troublesome trolley…

Do you know that struggle of grabbing a trolley and instantly realizing you have picked a dud and your entire shopping experience is going to be terrible?

Yeah same. So I was taking a leisurely stroll through the supermarket aisles and my trolley was wheeling wherever the heck it felt like and I was getting madder by the second. Then I noticed the reason for it’s uncooperative behaviour. Stuck to the bottom of the back wheel was a flattened jelly worm that was dragging on the ground.

Is my life thrilling or what? 😛

Thursday: The coolest bathroom…

One of my favourite things ever is exploring new coffee shops with people. I love living in a big city like Auckland because there are so many little cafes to try out. I went with a friend to one this week that was really cool.

It had a funky, old-timey feel about it. Kinda like what the village in Shrek looked like.

Anyway, I got super excited because they had one of the coolest bathrooms I have ever seen. You know you are getting old when you start to appreciate a good bathroom. Like isn’t it the best when they have those individual little hand towels in a basket by the sink? Or the have moisturizer as well as soap? Tell me I’m not the only one.

Friday: Fancy schmancy dinner…

I had a friend over for dinner last night and I had the very best intentions of making this really fancy dinner for her.

A couple of years ago I was given Julia Child’s french cookbook and I’ve always felt far too intimidated by it to try any of the recipes but I decided now was as good a time as ever.

Except I managed to sabotage myself before I even began cooking because I accidentally left the chicken I bought for the recipe out all day so I had to throw the entire packet away.  Luckily, I found some chicken tucked away in the depths of the freezer and I had enough to make a speedy chicken Alfredo instead.

It was delicious but I can’t help but feel a bit defeated. I am going to tackle one of those recipes if it is the last thing I do!

And that was my week. ICYMI, here is what I posted about:

  1. i had a bad recipe fail with banana bread recently. It all stuck to the pain and didn’t taste good at alll. lol. also that tweet from John Mayer had me laughing haha

  2. Just when I thought you were as awesome as they come, you go and make a Shrek reference and become even awesome-er. Also, what in the world does “taking the mickey” mean? I’m with you though, I always note good soaps and such in bathrooms. A good bathroom instantly makes me like a place more:)! And that pasta looks absolutely delicious!

    1. Hahaha gotta love Shrek though 😛 That’s funny you’ve never heard of taking the mickey. I think it’s an English expression. It means making fun of someone/mocking them I guess. Mmm hmm good bathrooms make me very happy.

  3. Haha that John Mayer tweet is hilarious! I’m not going to lie, I really struggle with John Mayer because I read an article about his opinion on pornography that I vehemently disagree with, so I can never look at him the same. Buuut I may be adding him to my playlist today because I do love his voice.

    1. Ohh really?! I haven’t seen that article and I don’t think I want to because I really love his music. But to be honest, if I were only to listen to music from musicians whose opinions I agreed with I would have a very small playlist. I don’t know exactly how Christians are supposed to handle stuff like this?
